If you weren’t one of the “winners” last week, keep on trying! You really DID win in that you now have a wonderfully organized space in your home!! Be proud of yourself, and try again this week.
Welcome to the second week of our New Year’s Organizing Revolution! This week we are focusing on getting our kitchens organized. If you are up for it, you can take on the entire room, or if you want to start small, just work on a drawer or two. Either way, have fun getting your kitchen in order!
One of the hardest spots to keep organized in a kitchen is the refrigerator. In my home since my children are home for most meals (we homeschool), the fridge has big hands and little hands fishing through it all day, almost every day. To top it off, we have family visit from out of town several times every year.
With that many hands taking things out and putting things away, it can get pretty hectic in there, and fast!
About a year ago, I ran into Target to pick up a few things and found the greatest plastic basket weave bins. My first thought was that they would be great in my linen closet, so I bought a few.
Isn’t it cute? The Target near me (and I think most) have discontinued this line in their stores. However, the last time I checked, they are still available online.
After I got home, an idea struck me and I knew these baskets weren’t going in the linen closet! They were going to solve our fridge organization problem.
I made up some labels (you can see them here and link to the free printable 🙂 ). I also ordered some Fridge Binz from Amazon and got my fridge in order.
It has worked so well and makes it so simple for my family and guests to put things away in order. It’s wonderful to have my leftovers in one (or two) places, and not lost all over the fridge! It’s simple to find the condiments we need without searching through bottle after bottle.
Another idea I had to keep things orderly in my fridge was to label my leftover containers. I didn’t want to have to wash sticky label residue off of lids, but I needed a better way to keep track of when the food was prepared. As I mentioned earlier, I have LOTS of company. It can be nearly impossible to remember when foods were made, especially with so many people coming and going. One day I realized that dry erase crayons might be a good solution.
Were they ever!! They don’t smudge at all, but wipe off easily with a damp paper towel or sponge. Viola! I love simple solutions!
And now it’s time for you to get started on your kitchens! I can’t wait to see all your organized spaces.
