It’s that time in our home once again ~ birthday time. A time of celebration and fun for the family. A time to enjoy our little one and all that is special to her.
You know how it used to be before the age of digital cameras when parents would have 100 pictures of the first born child, 50 of the second born and maybe 15 or 20 pics of the younger children ~ if they were lucky? Now, we have 2,000 of the first child, 1,500 of the second, and shame on us, only about a thousand of subsequent children.
Well, this phenomenon doesn’t only apply to pictures. Life. Is. Busy! And it’s busier the more kids you have.
I love decorating cakes. It’s been a hobby that I’ve enjoyed ever since I worked in a bakery when I was a teenager. When my first daughter was little, I’d easily spend 4 or 5 hours decorating a beautifully perfected Dora or Polly Pocket cake that would be gobbled up in 15 minutes or less. I realize it was a little over the top. A little. But the look on her face – it was worth it.
Do I have that kind of time now with four little ones? Not a chance! So, like the pictures, my poor, neglected fourth child has never had a decorated cake {except for those that Walmart so graciously took care of for me}. But, in a few weeks we will celebrate the birthday of my youngest. This year, I’m going to make that Dora cake once again, and I am really hoping it doesn’t take 4 hours.
Thankfully, I found a tip {in the nick of time!} that could easily save me 2 hours of mess and cleanup. You must watch this video if you have any interest in decorating cakes!

I agree, Trina! I make SUCH a mess in the kitchen when I’m decorating a cake. Whenever I finish I with the cake, I think, “I’m not doing this again. It’s not worth the mess”. I thought this was one of the best tips!!!
