One of my very favorite holidays is the 4th of July. I’m from the Philly area, and Independence Day is a huge celebration there. It seems like there’s a parade in every town.
I thought it was a holiday that Americans all over the country celebrated in a big way – until I moved away from Philly. Unfortunately, where I live now there isn’t a parade to be found for at least 30 miles.
So, I decided this year I was going to bring some patriotism to my own home! 🙂
I have a very long mantle in my family room which was one of the things that first attracted me to this house. I absolutely love it! But, it can be a challenge finding the balance between too empty, or too cluttered. It has a rustic feel to it, so I thought an Americana style would work well.
I found the cutest pitcher with “No. 4” printed on a piece of burlap at a craft store recently. I couldn’t resist!
At Easter time, I framed a printable I found online and loved the look. So, I decided to make one for my patriotic theme. You can print one below. I made it in several styles.
While I was at a thrift store recently, I found this darling glass vase. I got one package each of red beans, navy beans, and black beans. I saw this idea somewhere online recently but don’t remember where. (If it was your original idea, please let me know so I can give credit. :))
I tied a piece of jute on it to keep with the rustic feel of the room.
I also used the jute to cover this wooden “G” I found at the craft store. I love the feel of adding natural elements into my decorating.
I found this adorable tin flag at {my favorite candle store} Swan Creek.
I haven’t made anything crafty in a LONG time, so when I saw the idea for this wreath online, I just couldn’t resist making one! I am so happy with how it turned out, and it only took me an hour to make! That’s my kinda craft these days. 🙂 I’ll post in a few days how I made it and where I found the inspiration.
There you have it – my patriotic mantle. It makes me happy whenever I see it because it reminds me of fun times spent with family and friends on the Fourth of July.
What is Independence Day like where you live? Do your kids decorate their bikes for a parade or bike race? What traditions are popular in your area?
